Enough progress being made in Assign 2

It has been quite a while since I last blogged. However, since I have to blog about the progress I have been making in the oop322 course, here is a little something I did this week. Well, I am in the team++ group. Our group assignment is 75% done. I uploaded the IO_Vedit class yesterday. To tell you the truth, it is the easiest of all the classes in the assignment. Since all of the classes were taken by group members, I was left to do that. Anyway, it is straight forward. You have everything explicitly written as an instruction. I just followed it and did what was asked and run it.

First IRC Meeting

My team and I just had our first meeting with Fardad for our Assignment 2 in IRC. Since the meeting was our first, Fardad went through the do’s and don’ts that everyone should follow for the rest of the meetings we are going to have in IRC and also when working on our assignment.

The person leading the meeting or the chair sets the topic of current conversation.
IRC meeting can be meetings where many different topics may pop up or lectures, where one person talks about specific topic.
If a public question is thrown, everyone must try to answer it so the conversation can continue.
Do not send off topic messages on a meeting.
Wait for the topic to conclude to start a new one, everyone’s question must be answered first.
If you are saying something to every one or the chair person, just type your message, but if you are referring to someone specifically, then make sure you have their nick: at the beginning of the message.

He also talked about the project and SVN: trunk (is where the current version of the working copy is stored), Tags (is where each milestone is stored, right before each commit working copy is copied to the repository), Branches (is the place where working copy is copied for major changes and later each of these will be merged back to the working copy) and also talked about how we should create our own program in the main file.

If there is anything I want to add, I would say Seneca needs its own chat program.

First Time Using SVN

As everyone in my OOP344 course knows we are going to SVN(Subversion) to do our Assignment 2 as a team. To track what everyone has done in the group and for the group members to not make a replication, Fardad told us that we have to use SVN. Even though we went through all the basic commands in class with him, such as the commit, update, checkout, add, list, and import, I found it very tiresome when using it to access the files in our repository the first time.

The Final Touches on Assign 1 Before the Actual Deadline

I was so excited to find out that the due date was extended even if it was only for one day. I had so many bugs to fix. Well, right now everything seems to be working in VCC. It passes all the test code. What is left is to figure out how to remove some of the compile errors in Borland and also this one error I have in Linux:

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

To post the Warnings and Errors for the Borland part is not enough for this blog.

Oh, one last thing before I go. The blog by cxatseneca was really helpful. For those of you who are having trouble compiling your program in LNX, check the blog. About the use of lncurses.

Week 3

I have been contemplating on what to write for my blog almost for two weeks now. After reading the “How to page” written by our Prof, I got enough courage to at least make me start.

Anyhow, this week, we learned in class how memory is allocated when we use multidimensional array in our program. The way we visualize it and how memory is addressed is completely different. Then in the second class, we learned about pointer function. Actually, this course doesn’t have many new things in it. It just tries to expand on what we already know, that is, up to now.

Currently, I am working on the first assignment for the course. It is really challenging. I have taken the concept from our Prof and tried to focus on each function at a time, but even then I am really having difficulties to figure out how to do it. I guess I am over thinking it. I wonder what it is going to be like when we start the actual text editor. Then again, we are going to be a group of six people. Anyway, I will work on it today the whole night and try to finish it before the test file is released. If I am not going any further. Then the next step will be to ask for help.
